Community Improvement
East Pennsboro Elementary in Cumberland County

KAT students continue year after year to transform East Pennsboro in
Cumberland County. This time, the entire third grade team at West Creek Hills Elementary School has been working with the township manager to make improvements to their community. The five classes want to punctuate the town with barrels of flowers. In the process, they are speaking to their commissioners about what's feasible, and presenting their plans at a public meeting of the Board. They have worked with experts at a local nursery to determine the sorts of plants that will thrive in different locations, and to calculate the amount of soil and numbers of the species they select. They are developing contracts with families to "adopt" the 50 barrels and maintain them over the summer months.
