Take Civic Action

Once students have studied and analyzed an issue, they may want to take action.  They should restate the problem, develop possible alternatives, analyze feasibility of solutions and choose the best solution for the "public good."  Section VII of the KAT Manual presents a range of activities that classes can take to resolve their policy issue and to make positive improvements to their communities.

How Two KAT Classes Used This Component

Skateboarding
Gladwyne 4th graders took their results public. They put themselves on the agenda of the School Board and Township Commission to make formal presentations of their research and to request of these local decision-makers the building of a skatepark.

School Safety
Woolslair students worked together with their Councilman to have a guardrail installed along the front perimeter of the school to create a physical barrier between the children and the traffic.
