After students have analyzed the data, they need to decide on possible solutions to the problem they have studied.   They can inform the public, convince local authorities or participate in another planned course of action. Section VI of the KAT Manual offers many models for problem solving, and provides tips for reframing the situation, developing criteria for selecting solutions, and devising an action plan.

How Two KAT Classes Used This Component

Skateboarding
Perhaps Lower Merion could solve the skateboarding problem by arresting the offending skateboarders or imposing substantial fines on their
families. The students decided that a better solution would be to
create a site dedicated to skates and rollerblading, where children
would be required to wear safety equipment. In subsequent research, they
might follow up more on potential costs and location of a prospective
skatepark. But given the information they had, they planned how to begin
to make their solution a reality.

School Safety
Many possible solutions for Woolslair's problem could be conceived: for
instance, altering traffic patterns and discontinue use of the front
doors. However, Woolslair students worked with their City Councilman,
Jim Ferlo, to devise a less disruptive, but nevertheless effective
alternative.
